Low-Energy Electron Accelerator for Industrial Applications

A low-energy electron accelerator is a highly efficient radiation processing system designed to accelerate electrons to controlled energy levels for material modification, sterilization, and surface treatment. This technology is widely used in polymer processing, coating curing, scientific research, and industrial manufacturing, offering precise control, high efficiency, and environmentally friendly operation.

Working Principle of the Electron Accelerator

The operation of a low-energy electron accelerator is based on thermionic emission and electrostatic acceleration. When the electron gun is heated, electrons are emitted from the cathode surface. These electrons are extracted and accelerated by a high-voltage DC electric field, which is generated through a step-up transformer and rectification system. The acceleration voltage determines the final electron energy, allowing precise adjustment according to application requirements.

After acceleration, the electron beam is shaped and guided by electromagnetic focusing and scanning systems. The beam then enters the scanning chamber and passes through a thin exit window foil, forming a uniform “curtain-type” electron beam. When the electrons interact with the target material, they induce a variety of radiation effects, including polymer crosslinking, grafting, chain scission, coating and ink curing, as well as sterilization and disinfection.
