EVOH Resin Market Development Trend Forecast for 2025

2025-03-07

The technological advantages and environmental attributes of Evoh Plasticin the Barrier Film Packaging sector will drive its continuous growth through 2025.

In 2022, the EVOH for packaging market size was $1.23 billion, and it is expected to reach $1.68 billion by 2025, with a CAGR of 8.2%. Barrier film packaging will account for over 70% of total demand, leading market growth.

In the Asia-Pacific region, China and India will experience the fastest growth (CAGR 10.5%), driven by upgrades in the food industry, with a market share of 38% by 2025. In Europe, increasingly stringent environmental regulations are driving demand for recyclable EVOH oxygen barrier film, with Germany and France emerging as key growth drivers.

In terms of technological development, high performance and multifunctionality will be future trends. The thickness of the EVOH layer will decrease from 10μm to 5μm, reducing material costs while maintaining barrier performance.Besides that, EVOH barrier film embedded with oxygen and humidity indicators will enable real-time monitoring of the internal packaging environment.

Regarding sustainability, by 2025, bio-based EVOH is expected to account for 15% of total production capacity, primarily applied in high-end sustainable packaging. Additionally, the commercialization of closed-loop recycling technology for EVOH waste films is accelerating, further reducing the carbon footprint.

At the same time, industry competition is evolving. Japan's Kuraray is integrating downstream packaging enterprises through mergers and acquisitions, building a complete EVOH resin-film-recycling supply chain. Chinese domestic enterprises such as Sinochem International and Wanhua Chemical are increasing R&D investments, aiming to achieve a 30% import substitution rate by 2025. India’s Reliance Industries is entering EVOH packaging materials  production, leveraging low-cost ethylene feedstock to compete in the Southeast Asian market.

In 2025, focusing on high-performance product development, bio-based transformation, and downstream supply chain integration will become key strategies to address global market changes.
